        The apparel industry is one of the bigger employers in the manufacturing world.

         

        In 2018, the whole apparel market weighted more than US$326 billion and is expected to grow close to US$349 billion in 2021.

         

        The apparel market is the wearing branch of the textile market, which weight more than US$900 today.

         

        H&M, Gap, Inditex... You know these brands which are some of the most powerful in the industry.

         

        What is the path of the clothes you wear from design to sales ?

      • The Apparel Supply Chain

        The Raw Materials

        Meters of fabric are to be sold to the manufacturers

        Cutting & Sewing

        The fabrics are processed into brand new fashion clothes !

        Retail Sales

        Clothes are to be sold, either in the producing country or in any other in the world.

      • What's wrong with it ?

        Historically, industries have migrated to countries where workforce is cheaper.

        The main problem with it : The working conditions of the people involved in the supply chain.

        In 2013, the Rana Plaza, a manufacturing building collapsed. 1127 deads.

        This event was the trigger for a sufficient awareness of the manufacturing issues.

        Other issues : The ecological consequences of savage manufacturing and health problems caused by cotton production.

        250.000 Indian farmers have committed suicide because of Monsanto's debts - Some villages cannot drink the water they were used to...
